Mobile can not replace computer yet

Nowadays mobile are very popular through the world. Some people give a proposition that mobile phone can be better than a PC. But it is not true. A personal computer is not only a desktop computer, but also may be a laptop, tablet PC or a handheld PC (also called palmtop). Comparatively speaking, Mobile can not replace computer yet. The laptop and other portable PC are better than mobile in full range.

First, Laptop also can be used in anywhere just like mobile phone. Nowadays, laptop become smaller and lighter. For example, VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC does more than you could imagine-with impeccable style. With 8'' screen and 1.4-pound weight, its size is 24.5cm×12.0cm×1.98cm, even slighter than some mobile phones. Email at the airport, IM from the park, or just show it off when you want some attention. Best of all, it fits right in your purse of jacket pocket.

Traveling to a new city? Turn-by-turn GPS navigation will get you there faster. Laptop does better in this field. It has more powerful location-based services than mobile phone. Because laptop can memory more data with bigger hard disk. Actually, Every type of mobile which can give geographically-base services is smartphone. But smartphone is not perfect products now. It has slow touching response and sometimes it make people crazy. So smartphone has slower searching speed and less map details than laptop.
3G and GPRS laptop is a laptop with 3G module and GPRS network card inside. For larger RAM and stronger processor, laptop has faster transfer speed than smartphone.
Mobiles are not private any more like the old days. Some people can track your call and message record even by phone number. And government may monitor your talking too. That's too horrible.

Mobile consumers have to change their personalisation settings via PC access, such as themes, skins, wallpapers, rings and so on. That is not as convenient as laptop. And personalisation resources for mobile is not very abundant as well.

The last point is that the spreading on computer viruses is also a problem for this new technology. Just like computer viruses, these viruses will affect the normal usage on mobile phones making them to malfunction and causing destructions. There are lots of anti-virus software & firewall for laptop and one or two for mobile phone. Which one is safer?

Judging from what has been discussed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that mobile phone can not replace computer yet. Laptop still leads the digital world.

  2. @E-heroes: Sir, many thanks for your comment.
That's just our own opinion. We will add more references and fix this deficiency next time.
And personally, my subject in university is computer science and technology. I love my subject so I favour laptop. In my opinion, except screen factor, mobile can replace laptop one day in some ways. But not now, maybe next five years. Look at this table below:

The smartphones' configurations haven't reach laptops' level. But with the development of computer hardware miniaturization, finally smartphones' configuration can exceed laptop.
Sincerely thanks for giving suggestions again.

  3. Good job from me as well! I agree with your statement and once again I can say that from my point of view the real threat for the laptops is comming from the IDTV, because I`d enjoy just one big screen in my room combining my laptop and my TV, so for example I can switch easily from premiership derby to facebook at any time in my bed – no backbone pain as well.

  4. @Bozhidar: Thanks for the comments. Yes, with screen factor, both laptop and mobile cannot competed with IDTV. When u watch TV or play laptop, Lying on a bed benifits your backbone. In fact, I hurt my waist when I playing basketball match last year. And doctor told me sitting in a same postion for a long time is main reason for the hurt. By the way, I have been a reds' fans for 17 years. My favorite player is Robbie Folwer. Congratulations for victory in 28th Feb!

  5. We can only agree with preferring to use a pc and not a mobile phone for convenience reasons.

But we have a question about what you think will happen when the mobile phone technology catches up with the level of technology the pc's have (i.e. fater GPSnavigation and more memory) or do you think the pc will always have a technological advantage and stay ahead?

  6. @Jurgen: With the development of computer hardware miniaturization, finally configuration of smartphones can exceed laptop. This is a trend. Pc will not have a technological advantage and stay ahead forever. No doubt about that.
But please remember that laptop spent 18 years(1985-2003) to catch up with the technology level of desktop. Evoloving hardware miniaturization is not a simple process. For example, the volume of iphone 3GS is only as 1/40-1/20 as common laptop's. And its speed of processor is less than half of laptop's. The volume of storage is as 1/20-1/10 as laptop's. There is a big technological gap. At least, laptop will have superior tech in the near future.
